A Personal Testimony of Prayer, Healing, and God’s Faithfulness
Psalm 103:2–3 (KJV)
“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases.”
There are moments in life when you pray for something, wait for something, and believe God for something without knowing when or how things will change.
And then there are moments when you look back and realize just how much has changed.
Today, I want to share a personal testimony.
Not because I have all the answers, but because I believe there is value in remembering what God has brought us through.
Years ago, I was told that I had slight fatty liver. I also had polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a condition I had struggled with for years.
There were times when I did not have menstrual cycles at all. I had been told that I had cysts on my ovaries and that conceiving a child could be difficult.
I also had a history of fatty liver findings.
These were things I had lived with and carried for years.
But that was not the end of my story.
A Devotional Reflection
At different times, I began experiencing severe stomach pain.
Interestingly, I noticed that the pain would occur after I returned from traveling outside the country.
Initially, I thought perhaps I had eaten something or been exposed to something while traveling.
But I eventually realized that I did not know what was causing the pain.
There were moments when it became so severe that I could barely eat.
I wondered whether it was connected to my liver or gallbladder.
I tried to find relief, but medications were not resolving what I was experiencing, and I still did not have an explanation.
So I prayed.
I continued praying through the discomfort and uncertainty.
And over time, the pain improved.
I cannot explain everything that happened medically, but I know that prayer was an important part of how I walked through that season.
Eventually, I saw a medical provider who ordered additional testing, including an ultrasound and blood work.
By the time the testing was completed, my pain had already improved.
But what came next gave me another reason to thank God.
A Teaching Reflection
When my ultrasound results came back, the findings were normal.
My liver was reported as normal.
My gallbladder, kidneys, and spleen were normal.
There was no fatty liver reported on the ultrasound.
And something else stood out to me.
After years of dealing with PCOS and previously being told that I had cysts on my ovaries, the ultrasound showed no ovarian cysts.
My blood work also came back within normal ranges.
I remember what I had been told years earlier.
I remember the uncertainty.
I remember the pain.
And now I was looking at results that were very different from what I had experienced in the past.
I was overwhelmed with gratitude.
Psalm 77:11 (KJV) says:
“I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.”
Sometimes we become so focused on what we are currently facing that we forget to look back and recognize how far we have come.
For me, these results became an opportunity to remember.
To remember the prayers.
To remember the uncertainty.
To remember the days when my body did not seem to be functioning as it should.
And to give thanks for where I am today.
For approximately two years now, my menstrual cycles have been regular.
After years of irregularity and missed periods, that change alone has meant so much to me.
I have also experienced improvements in the hormonal symptoms I once struggled with.
With my recent test results and the changes I have experienced over time, I can say that I am healed and restored.
I give God the glory for that.
My faith and my willingness to seek medical care do not compete with one another.
I am grateful for both.
Healing Application
I want to speak to the person who has been praying about something for years.
Perhaps it is your health.
Perhaps it is something happening in your family.
Perhaps you have received news that left you uncertain about your future.
Or perhaps you have been carrying something for so long that you have begun to believe it will always be part of your life.
I want to encourage you to continue bringing your concerns before God.
But I also want to remind you of something important.
God’s goodness is not measured only by whether our circumstances change.
Some people receive the results they have prayed for.
Others continue waiting.
Others learn to live faithfully while managing conditions that have not gone away.
And none of those experiences means that God loves one person more than another.
Our faith is not a guarantee that every diagnosis will disappear.
But it gives us somewhere to turn when life becomes uncertain.
We can pray and seek treatment.
We can believe and ask questions.
We can trust God while continuing to care for the bodies He has given us.
And when we experience improvement, relief, or restoration, we can pause long enough to give thanks.
A Closing Truth
I do not share this testimony to suggest that everyone who prays will receive the same outcome, but I know that they can with faith.
I share it because I know what my experience has been.
I know what I was told years ago.
I know what I struggled with.
I know the pain I experienced.
And I know what my more recent medical evaluations have shown.
Today, I am grateful for the improvements I have experienced in my health.
There was a time when I wondered what was happening inside my body.
Today, I can look back on that season with gratitude.
My testimony is not that I understood everything God was doing. My testimony is that I continued to seek Him even when I did not understand what was happening.
Sometimes we are so busy praying for what is next that we forget to praise God for what is no longer.
And now, I have another reason to praise Him.
Not only for what has changed, but for His faithfulness throughout the journey.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for being present in every season of uncertainty, pain, and waiting. Thank You for hearing the prayers we whisper when we do not have answers. I am grateful for the healing, improvement, and restoration I have experienced. Lord, I also lift up those who are still struggling with their health, still waiting for answers, or still carrying difficult diagnoses. Strengthen their faith, guide them toward the care they need, and remind them that Your love is not dependent upon their circumstances. Help us never to forget Your goodness, whether we are waiting for a breakthrough or looking back with gratitude. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
